A solitary highlight

Before we take stock of the Redskins Reality Checks for this week, I do want to point out one brilliantly shining highlight of the game: Jonathan Allen’s immediate and dramatic example of leadership after Montae Nicholson’s stupid personal foul, which continued later in the game as well as in the post-game locker room.

This is the kind of leadership, fire and accountability that has been missing from this team. If this game is the impetus for Allen to take a major step forward in leading this team and instilling a no-nonsense, angry mentality on the defensive side of the ball, then in the long run, this loss won’t be a bad thing for this organization.

Now that we’ve covered maybe the only potential positive to come out of this game, let’s look back at the Reality Checks I had identified before this game and see if it was as bad as it feels. As a reminder, the Reality Checks are more for the sake of fans than the team, trying to smooth out the ups and downs of Redskins fandom. Hopefully it works this week, because if it doesn’t, there are going to be a lot of people stuck in the pit of despair.
