Brett Rypien 2018 Performance Update

Heading into the 2017 season, Rypien was one of the sleepers to watch in the college quarterback crop. In his first two seasons with Boise State, he threw for 6,996 yards, 44 touchdowns, and only 16 interceptions. In 2017,  a breakout was expected for the quarterback with the eye-grabbing surname.

The breakout didn’t happen. Rypien threw for under 3,000 yards, and notched only 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. His completion percentage lingered around 62.6 percent, and on tape, many of the same issues from years past revealed themselves again.

Rypien’s regression in 2017 slowed the hype train heading into 2018, but through three games, Rypien has fired up the engines once again. In the first quarter of the college football regular season, Rypien has 1,047 yards, 10 touchdowns, and no picks. His completion percentage is up from 62.6 percent to 71.4 percent, an outrageous number for any quarterback.

Many of the accuracy and arm concerns that plagued Rypien in years past have remained hidden in 2018. The Broncos signal caller has been smart, decisive, and electric early on, and if he continues to use his traits to produce like this, he could fly up draft boards in the coming months. He plays against Wyoming tonight at 7:00 Eastern Time. Make sure you don’t miss it.
