Few players were surrounded by more questions this offseason than Quinton Dunbar. Would he start? Was he a good enough replacement for Bashaud Breeland? Is he better than Fabian Moreau? Well, he answered all of those on Sunday.

Dunbar was one of the better players on the field against the Cardinals. He logged an interception and three pass defenses all while looking like a solid defender. It really seemed that he firmly entrenched himself as a building block on the defense.

Following the Redskins victory over the Cardinals, I identified Dunbar as one of the top standouts from the game and said the following of him.

More from Riggo's Rag

"Dunbar played very well in coverage throughout the entirety of the game. He defended three passes and notched an interception. All afternoon, Dunbar was quickly reacting to the ball and breaking on it to make plays. There really was no stopping him at all. With Dunbar’s new number, 23, it was easy to mistake him for DeAngelo Hall during his prime. That may be lofty praise for the fourth-year man, but he truly looked like a great starting corner on the field. Hopefully, he will be able to continue that trend in the coming weeks, and it looks like he has the potential to be a long-term starter for the team, whether it’s as a No. 1 or a No. 2 corner."

Might we be overreacting to one good game? It’s entirely possible. But that’s what makes this second game so important. Granted, Dunbar doesn’t have a very hard matchup, but if he can shut down his former teammate Ryan Grant, there’s a chance that he could establish himself as one of the better defensive players. That’s why he’s one of the top players to watch in the second game of the season.
