No. 4 – The running game was stellar

Adrian Peterson’s stat line: 26 carries, 96 yards, 1 TD, 2 receptions, 70 yards

Chis Thompson’s stat line: 5 carries, 65 yards, 6 receptions, 63 yards, 1 TD

Everyone was excited to see the debut of Adrian Peterson. He certainly lived up to the hype and exceeded expectations. He looked like the Peterson of old and dominated the Arizona front seven. He ran with purpose and a ferocity that we haven’t seen in quite some time from him. Chris Thompson, meanwhile, made everyone forget that he was coming off a crucial injury. He looked as quick and explosive as ever. He’s clearly Smith’s favorite target.

The combination of these two are going to be nightmare matchups going forward for opposing defenses to account for. If both backs can stay healthy, the Redskins could have a top five backfield in the NFL. The offensive line looked great and healthy as well. Injuries is what hindered the ground game last season, but everyone looks healthy and good to go, now.

The Redskins have been searching for a primary back since the days of Clinton Portis. Maybe it’s the No. 26 that Peterson’s wearing that brought him back to his vintage days. Regardless, the Redskins will rely heavily on Peterson as long as his body can hold up.

With this thunder and lightning combination, the Redskins can control the line and the clock. Vintage Peterson and mighty mouse Thompson are going to be exciting and entertaining to watch.
