OLB Pete Robertson

I had Robertson as a candidate to make the active roster, but the team ended up cutting him instead. Robertson has great athletic ability and is a quality special teams player. That wasn’t quite enough to land him on the roster.

Robertson had a sack in the final preseason contest, but the Redskins evidently are planning on carrying just four outside linebackers. That meant Robertson was expendable, so he was cut as a result.

When I identified Robertson as a potential roster dark horse, this is what I said about him.

More from Riggo's Rag

"Robertson could be on the verge of being a breakout player. Because of this, he will have a chance to make the team’s final roster, especially because of the position he plays. Robertson can function as an undersized edge rusher, an inside linebacker, or a 4-3 outside linebacker depending on the situation. In all likelihood for the Redskins, Robertson would be a versatile depth player who would play a big role on special teams, much like their third-string rush linebacker Chris Carter did last year. That would probably be the ideal fit for the Texas Tech product."

With Robertson off the roster, he now has a chance to land on the practice squad again. Given his athletic ability, the team should do what they can to keep him, as he could see action in a couple of games this year as a potential call-up.
