RB Kapri Bibbs

There was some confusion about whether or not Bibbs would have practice squad eligibility, but new NFL practice squad rules allow teams to have a couple of veterans on the squad. As a result, Bibbs will be eligible for the unit and will almost certainly be signed.

Some may think that Bibbs could get scooped up after a solid preseason, but the fact is that he was on the market for most of last season before the Redskins eventually signed him. There just isn’t a lot of interest in him, so there’s a good chance that the Redskins will be able to bring him back.

Bibbs had a good preseason as a pass catcher, and he did well between the tackles at times. That said, he was playing more against depth guys, and the strong performance of Rob Kelley in the preseason finale pushed him off the roster. It could be argued that Bibbs is better than Kelley, but Gruden’s love for Kelley ensured that he would make the roster.

Meanwhile, some were calling for Samaje Perine to be off the roster after he fumbled in the preseason finale, but the fact is that he was the best pure runner on the field for the Redskins during the preseason that was not named Adrian Peterson. He has some upside and if he can show better ball security skills, he could carve out a role.

There just wasn’t space for Bibbs on the active roster. That said, he could easily be promoted during the season if there’s an injury or if any of the three traditional backs (Peterson, Perine, Kelley) struggle. For now, his spot in on the practice squad, but keep an eye on him as he could see some action for the team this season.
