No. 2 – RB Kapri Bibbs

Kapri Bibbs, by all accounts, has done nothing but good in his time with Washington. Last season, he came into a running back room in turmoil, behind an offensive line in shambles, and he played fairly well, albeit in a small sample size. He displayed a quick, energetic run style, as well as an ability to catch passes and take them down the field.

This offseason, it’s been more of the same from Bibbs. Whenever he has an opportunity, excitement never seems to be far away. So why is he on the outside looking in on the depth chart?

Part of it may simply be comfort. Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson have cemented themselves as the respective starters, and Jay Gruden is comfortable with Robert Kelley and Samaje Perine, two backs with limited skill sets, but more experience, as the backups. Both are players that bring comfort.

But neither is a roster lock with Bibbs around.

A door opened for Bibbs when Byron Marshall suffered an apparent injury earlier in preseason, and on Thursday night, Bibbs can open another door for himself with a solid performance against second and third-stringers. He’ll likely get the most opportunities yet this week, so it’ll be very important for him to capitalize, in order to take advantage of a close roster race. A touchdown could not only be the difference between a win and a loss, but a deciding factor in whether or not Bibbs makes the team.
