No. 5 – QB Kevin Hogan

It’s looking more and more unlikely that the Redskins will keep Kevin Hogan on the active roster, but on Thursday night, Hogan will have one last chance to show he’s worth the risk.

The Redskins signed another quarterback, Connor Jessop, but more likely than not, Jessop will serve as insurance for Hogan on Thursday night. Hogan has been the team’s third string quarterback for the entire offseason, and throughout the preseason, he’s shown steady improvement.

His play isn’t yet to the caliber at which keeping him would be a necessity, but at the very least, he can earn himself some post-cut suitors with a solid game this week. Last week, he threw two touchdowns and completed 77 percent of his passes. Washington will need a performance like that, but of greater magnitude, to consider keeping the former Browns quarterback around.

Hogan has intriguing potential at the quarterback position; he’s a stellar athlete for the position, and he has a decent arm. For the former Stanford signal caller, polish is what he lacks, and unfortunately, for reserve quarterbacks in the NFL, it’s a hard thing to attain. But if he can flash enough of his potential on Thursday, and play an efficient, complete game, then perhaps he can convince the Redskins, who have two quarterbacks over 30 years old, to continue his development for another year.
