Defense/Special Teams

For this position, beauty is often in the eye of the beholder. Some will look at the Redskins defense and like it. Others will see a the potential for a major bust. As always, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

When drafting a defense, it’s most important to look at their early season schedule. The Redskins are playing the Cardinals and the Colts in the first two weeks, so that could work out in their favor. However, the three weeks following are see them take on the Packers, go on bye, and then play the Saints. So, that’s three weeks where you really can’t use the squad.

If you’re a player who likes playing matchups, the Redskins could be appealing if all the other defenses with favorable early-season matchup are off the board. If you’d prefer to land one of the perceived “elite” units, then the Redskins are not the one for you.

If you want to grab the Redskins defense, do it in the second-to-last round of the draft. There’s no need to pull the trigger on them earlier, as they aren’t a popular pick. In all likelihood, you will be able to land a better defense but if you like sleepers, Washington could be the team for you.
