Score prediction

The Broncos aren’t going to be an easy opponent, especially in the second half of the game. They have a very good backup quarterback in Chad Kelly, and they will certainly have a chance to keep this contest close. It could all end up depending on how much the Redskins decide to play Colt McCoy in the second half before handing the reigns to Kevin Hogan.

The Redskins backup offensive line hasn’t played well, and that explains why they have blown leads in both of their preseason games. Even if Alex Smith and company build a strong lead in the first half, the team may end up letting this one get close, as they did after blowing a 17-0 lead in the loss to the Patriots. Because of this, it’s really hard to predict exactly what’s going to happen in this contest.

In terms of coaching though, the Redskins have the advantage. Vance Joseph proved to be a major downgrade from Gary Kubiak last season, and the Broncos have lost their first two preseason games this year. Even if you’re not a big Jay Gruden fan, the fact is that he’s still better than Joseph.

Because of Gruden, I’m taking the Redskins in this game. It will be close, but I think that in the dress rehearsal before Week 1, he’ll have the Skins ready for action and they’ll be able to beat their AFC foes.

Score Prediction: Redskins 27, Broncos 19
