5. Cam Sims catches a TD pass

One of the best performers of the first preseason game was Sims. The undrafted rookie out of Alabama had one of the offensive highlights of the night, catching a nifty 57-yard pass from Colt McCoy and making a couple of men miss in the process. He looked like a legitimate NFL receiver and flashed some serious potential.

With Robert Davis suffering a season-ending injury, Sims now has a chance to earn his way onto the roster. The team has an open battle for the final two spots, assuming that Maurice Harris is locked in as the No. 4 option, and Sims will be in the mix for that battle.

That said, Sims is going to have to do everything he can to impress against the Jets to prove his worth. His first preseason performance was undoubtedly solid, but he needs to parlay that into another good outing to really make a case. Currently, he’s probably the No. 7 receiver on the team. To make the squad, he will have to work his way to being the No. 6 option at the least.

Sims does have upside and has one skill that is unteachable, and that’s his height. Sims stands at 6-foot-5 and could pose a matchup nightmare in the red zone. The Redskins should give him a chance to prove that he can be a successful weapon in that area, and he could see some targets in the end zone this week.

For that reason, I expect that Sims will catch one TD pass this week at the least. He will probably see a good amount of action in the second preseason game and against the Jets shaky backups in the secondary, he should have a good chance to put a six on the board at some point during the contest.
