Joshua Holsey

Remember him? Prior to training camp, there was a lot of buzz about Holsey. The coaching staff really likes him and think that he’s a very smart player when he’s on the field. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to get on the field because of his health.

Just before training camp started, Holsey suffered a foot injury that caused him to be placed on the NFI list. The reason for the injury? Holsey accidentally dropped a glass table on his foot and it caused the injury.

You seriously can’t make this stuff up.

While Holsey has been recovering, there hasn’t been many updates on his status. It seems likely at this point that he might be stashed on the NFI list until he’s ready to come back. He also could be a candidate for the IR-DFR tag at some point during the offseason. It all depends on how fast he is healing and what the Redskins plans are for him.

Holsey is the real wild card of the group. His absence may stretch into the season. The team could also look to stash him on IR for the year if they are confident in their depth. There’s really no knowing exactly what they are going to do with him.

But one thing is certain. The Redskins like Holsey and he has the potential to develop into a top backup. If he was healthy, he probably would be in the mix as a top backup. For now though, he is an afterthought who will probably remain on an injured list for at least a little bit longer.
