Cam Sims

Sims was a bit of a dark horse to make the roster, but it seems that he may now have a real fighting chance after Davis’ injury. With the team likely to keep six receivers this season, Sims is probably sitting at the No. 7 position on the depth chart for the moment. But, that could change very quickly.

Sims had an excellent performance in the Redskins first preseason game, and he made a nice 57-yard catch to set up the team for a first-half touchdown. Sims worked into open space and caught a perfectly thrown pass from Colt McCoy down the field. After that, he ran up the sideline eluding two players before he was able to get to about the 5-yard-line where he was tackled by a couple of Patriots. The play showed that Sims could separate, has some speed, and has quick feet.

In addition to this, Sims has some value on special teams as a gunner, and he could be a red zone threat thanks to his 6-foot-5 frame. He will likely have to beat out Quick for the final receiver roster spot, as it’s unlikely that he will be able to overtake the more versatile Quinn.

Sims has a shot at the roster, but he’ll need to first perform well against the Jets. If he can do that, he’ll stand a chance. Either way, Sims is a lock for the practice squad, provided that he makes it through waivers after cuts. It will be interesting to see if the Redskins deem him worthy of keeping.

These are really the top dogs competing for the final receiver spots. Simmie Cobbs could make a run, but he seems more likely to be a practice squad candidate. Either way, the Redskins have an abundance of options to replace Davis. While they probably would have liked to have the second-year man on the roster, they will be able to get by without him.
