No. 2 cornerbacks vs. No. 2 receivers

MHite: Which No. 2 receivers can you see giving Quinton Dunbar or Orlando Scandrick trouble this season?

This is an interesting question, as the Redskins are playing a stacked schedule during the 2018 campaign. I’ll give you a few No. 2 receivers that could potentially give the Redskins corners some trouble this year.

Will Fuller, Texans. Fuller is a deep threat with excellent speed and he has a strong rapport with Deshaun Watson. He might be able to burn Dunbar or Scandrick if they are starting, and it might behoove the team to put their fastest corner on the field that week (and that could be Fabian Moreau).

Devin Funchess, Panthers. I’m considering D.J. Moore the No. 1 receiver on the Panthers for the purposes of this exercise. Funchess has a big frame and is a former tight end. That will give him a chance to body up opposing receivers and come down with a touchdown or two. The Redskins will have to be physical in order to stop him.

Calvin Ridley, Falcons. Ridley still has to prove himself, but he is a good route runner playing across from Julio Jones. Ridley could be up to speed on the Falcons when the Redskins take him on midway through the season, so they’ll have to be ready for the first-round pick to produce.

Nelson Agholor, Eagles. Agholor had a couple of nice games against the Redskins last year and his mix of deep speed and slot ability will make him hard to follow. They’ll need to plan accordingly to shut him down.

Those are probably the four best options, though Sterling Shepard and Randall Cobb may have something to say about that. Either way, the Redskins will be in good shape to slow down their opposing offenses if their No. 2 corner steps up.
