Washington Redskins 2018 defensive stat predictions
OLB Ryan Anderson
After an uninspiring rookie season, 2017 second-round pick Ryan Anderson is hoping to make strides of improvement in his second year. Anderson seemed a little slow adjusting to the NFL game, and he lacks athleticism to make up for mental errors. If Anderson wants to succeed in the NFL, he’ll need to do it with good technique, and being where he needs to be, when he needs to be there. Otherwise, he’ll fail to see the field much at all as the Redskins look to boast a strong outside linebacker unit.
2018 Stat Predictions: 18 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack
OLB Pernell McPhee
The Redskins needed to bring in some outside linebacker depth, and they did that well by signing Pernell McPhee. McPhee may be my favorite free agent signing this season. It’s definitely the most underrated. He may not be as strong a pass rusher as Smith or Kerrigan, but he’s one of the NFL’s elite run defenders. He sets an unbreakable edge and is extremely strong at the point of attack. The Redskins’ biggest weakness last season was their inability to stop the run. In this regard, McPhee is exactly what the team needed. He will get much more playing time than people expect, and will see most of his playing time on early downs and in short-yardage situations.
