NFL Mock Draft 5.0: Could Saquon Barkley fall to the Redskins at No. 13?
By Ian Cummings
In my last mock draft, I had Mike McGlinchey going to the Minnesota Vikings. This time, nothing changes. The Minnesota Vikings have a clear need on the edge of the offensive line, and with Kirk Cousins coming to join the team this offseason, they’ll need to find him his respective Trent Williams.
McGlinchey isn’t Trent Williams. But he’s a stout offensive tackle in his own right. Here’s what I had to say about McGlinchey in the last mock draft:
"The Vikings got away with a subpar offensive line for much of 2017, but down the stretch, the unit faltered. There wasn’t enough size or talent on the starting lineup, and the depth players were even worse. In Round 1 of the NFL Draft, the Vikings can do a lot worse than drafting a solid blocker up front. Notre Dame’s Mike McGlinchey is an option that checks all the boxes. McGlinchey is a behemoth on the edge, standing at 6-foot-8, 315. He’s surprisingly athletic, and right off the snap, he keeps his balance and moves his feet well. His team’s lack of offensive success in 2017 may cause McGlinchey to be overlooked in favor of other tackle prospects, but McGlinchey was solid week in and week out."
The Vikings need to find a solution for the offensive line, and by choosing Mike McGlinchey in the NFL Draft, they would certainly be taking a step in the right direction.
