NFL Mock Draft 5.0: Could Saquon Barkley fall to the Redskins at No. 13?
By Ian Cummings
I’m not high on Sam Darnold. But from what I understand, many NFL teams are. With a need for a big-armed quarterback and a change of pace, the Cleveland Browns have to be one of those teams.
Darnold, for all his flaws, has a number of quality traits that bode well for his NFL future. At 6-foot-4, 220, Darnold has the perfect size to fit the mold of a prototypical NFL quarterback. His tape is inconsistent, and he has a propensity to turn over the football. But he made throws in his college career that few quarterbacks could match. His anticipation skills are superb, and his intangibles are more than NFL-ready.
Darnold’s mechanics are sloppy, and his lower body is on the thin side, but teams in need of a talented thrower under center will weigh his potential more than any other qualities. Darnold, in the right situation, has a chance to be very good. The Cleveland Browns, still in rebuild mode, will look to provide him with all the tools he needs to be successful.
