It’s pretty clear that the Redskins need another receiving threat. With the quarterback question answered, the team’s major holes on the offensive side of the ball are at receiver and running back. In the first round, the team might have a shot at Calvin Ridley. And if they do, they should consider taking him.

Ridley has been a solid playmaker over the course of his three years at Alabama. While he didn’t have the best performance in the most recent College Football Playoff, he still functioned as a No. 1 receiving threat and was able to help his squad run a capable offense, despite the passing limitations of Jalen Hurts. Had he be paired with Tua Tagovailoa for more of the 2017 season, he could have performed even better.

Still, Ridley had 63 catches for 967 yards and five scores. He has a good, 6-foot-1 frame that should allow him to succeed outside. He’s a good route runner and he also has speed. He could end up being a No. 1 receiver if he lands in the right situation.

With the Redskins, Ridley would pair up with former first round receiver Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder to create a solid three man unit. Crowder could man the slot, Doctson could be a possession receiver, and Ridley could offer some better downfield ability while still functioning as a good route runner. Sure, the team would still probably like to add some more speed, but perhaps Ridley has enough to become a deep ball threat.

It’s possible that Ridley could be available with the No. 13 pick. Right now, his ceiling appears to be the No. 8 pick to the receiver needy Bears. With a good Combine, he might be out of reach. But either way, the Redskins should keep a close eye on them as they search for another offensive playmaker.
