Overall Outlook

This game may not seem like it means much on the surface, but a deeper dive reveals that it’s important for both coaches. Jay Gruden would love to get his team to .500 to give him a very strong chance to retain his job for another season. On the other side of the ball, Steve Spagnuolo would like to notch at least one win as the interim head coach. So, the pride of both coaches is at stake here.

Still, it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which the Giants can do enough to beat the Redskins. They simply don’t have any solid enough personnel on the defensive side of the ball to contain the Redskins. And on offense, they have lacked weaponry for the entirety of the season.

The Redskins still need to come out and play inspired. If they let the Giants hang around for too long, they will risk blowing the game. That wouldn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things, but losing to one of the worst teams in football would end the season on a sour note.

Next: Bengals interested in Jay Gruden, though he's unlikely to leave

At the end of the day, expect the Redskins to do everything they can to win. They want to guarantee their head coach a job and they don’t want to look bad. Getting to .500 will mean a lot more to the team than it seems, so expect them to reach the plateau and then start preparing for 2018.

Score Prediction: Redskins 31, Giants 7
