2. Contain Alvin Kamara

One of the reasons that the Saints offense has been so unstoppable is their running game. Many still associate the team with the high flying passing attack of Brees and Sean Payton, but that’s not the main source of offense for the team anymore. It really does come from the running backs.

Since Adrian Peterson was traded to the Cardinals, Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara have developed into one of the league’s best one-two punches. The duo complement each other well. Ingram serves as the lead back between the tackles and runs with more power. Kamara is an elite passing back who has the ability to elude defenders and break tackles. He is a do-it-all type player who offers explosive ability.

If the Redskins want a chance to win this game, they will have to slow one of them down. There’s just no way that they will be able to contain both. They are too talented. If the team had to pick one to contain, it should be Kamara. The reasoning behind this is simple.

Kamara is a more versatile player than Ingram. While both are very talented, Kamara is a player who can do damage out of the backfield and as a pass catcher. The Redskins have to be prepared to stop him, because he can do something different on every play. For the most part, Ingram will be in to run the ball, though he does catch an occasional pass.

Greg Manusky has to come compared to combat Kamara and take away one of Brees’ favorite weapons. Manusky should look to have a player follow Kamara when he’s on the field, and the best bet to do that would be Zach Brown. While Brown may not be able to cover Kamara outside, he is a player who is quick to react to the ball and will have a chance to at least slow him down. So long as he isn’t out playing cornerback, Brown is the Redskins best chance at helping to contain the rookie playmaker.
