3. Vernon Davis totals 10+ receptions

If there’s one thing that has become abundantly clear in the coming weeks, it’s that Vernon Davis is one of the most consistent players for the Redskins offense. Davis has taken over as the starting tight end for Jordan Reed in recent weeks, and he’s been great in that role.

Davis’ rebirth in Washington has been well documented, but he has really looked as good as he did in his prime in recent weeks. In the past two weeks, Davis has caught 13 passes for 148 yards and has been a reliable target for Kirk Cousins. Davis’ ability to get open over the middle of the field and use his athleticism to get to open space quickly has been huge for the team, and he figures to continue to be a big threat moving forward.

Versus New Orleans, Davis will have an even better chance of finding space. While the Saints have a great secondary and defensive line, they have some issues at linebacker. The team has some good players at the position, but none of their guys are too good in coverage. That will allow Davis to find space over the middle on shallow routes. Then, he can focus on generating YAC yards to make a big impact.

Davis should see a lot of targets from Cousins. The starting quarterback is going to be missing some of his top receiving options in this game, so it will be important for him to develop a rapport with Davis early. Expect Cousins to look his way early and often as the Redskins look to establish their passing offense against the Saints.

At the end of the day, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Davis hit double digits in receptions by the game’s end. He is going to be the top target on Sunday, and he will be ready to produce. And if he keeps playing at a high level, that could make the Redskins strongly consider moving on from Jordan Reed during the offseason.
