4. TE Vernon Davis

Jordan Reed is hurt. It’s déjà vu all over again. Reed hasn’t been able to stay healthy for his entire career, and it appears that he is going to be out for Sunday’s contest against the Seahawks. That will open the door for Vernon Davis to get another start.

Davis has proven to be a very good backup for the Redskins this season. He has played a high number of snaps because the team has opted to use more two tight end sets and they haven’t been afraid to use Davis as a receiver either. Of course, it does help his cause that Reed has been on and off the field this whole season.

Thus far, Davis has averaged 18.4 yards per catch and has been able to burn opposing defenses over the middle of the field. The Redskins frequently just have him run straight down the field and throw the ball to him. That could prove to be an effective strategy on Sunday too.

The Seahawks may end up being without Earl Thomas this upcoming week as he deals with a hamstring injury. Thomas is one of the best safeties in the NFL and his ability to cover tight ends is unparalleled. Brad McDougald is his backup, and he is nowhere near the player that Thomas is.

Davis is going to have a chance to beat McDougald over the middle of the field if the two match up. Kam Chancellor will try to help McDougald’s cause, but Davis should still be able to do a bit of damage. Because of this, Davis has a chance to have a big game and he could be one of the more electric players on the field this week.
