1. Washington Redskins

While there are a lot of places that Cousins could go, it’s still more likely that he will stay in Washington. The Redskins may be willing to do whatever it takes to keep Cousins, and they could opt to tag him once again. That would be an unprecedented and highly expensive move, but if they believe he is the guy, they could sign him.

Conversely, the team could look to sign him to a long term deal. The value of that contract would depend on how Cousins plays. Right now, he is probably in position to get a deal similarly valued to Derek Carr or Matthew Stafford. That would be worth $25-27 million per season. However, that is a volatile number considering a couple of factors.

The first is the performance of Cousins. He has been good this year, but he hasn’t been the game changing quarterback we saw at times during the 2016 season. At the same time, Cousins hasn’t hit the lowest lows he hit last year, so that could signal a more level performance for him. But there is still half a season to play, and Cousins could either catch fire or cool off to change the value.

No matter what, the Redskins will have the option to keep Cousins if they really want to. It would be an exorbitant amount to pay for his services but if he is the answer, it will be worth it. Until Cousins actually hits the open market, the Redskins are the top landing spot for the veteran quarterback.
