Ian’s Prediction

As usual, I’m erring on the pessimistic side this week. I think the Redskins have the talent to beat the Cowboys, but with all the injuries they’ve sustained, it will be a very tough fight. And as always, I take my argument back to the trenches. The Redskins simply don’t have enough depth on either side of the ball anymore. A few free agent signings won’t make it good as new.

With Trent Williams, Spencer Long, Brandon Scherff, and Morgan Moses all at danger of being inactive on Sunday, the Redskins’ offensive line will take a massive hit. The starting lineup could end up being T.J. Clemmings at left tackle, Shawn Lauvao at left guard, Chase Roullier at center, Arie Kouandjio (yes, he’s back) at right guard, and 6-foot-7 Orlando Franklin at right tackle.

Compared to the original starting lineup, that’s not a very compelling list of names. And don’t get me wrong. These guys are in the NFL for a reason. But there’s also a reason they haven’t stuck around anywhere else. Of all those names, seventh-round rookie Chase Roullier gives me the most confidence. And I’m not sure that’s supposed to be the case.

Kirk Cousins will do his best to keep the offense rolling, but without solid blocking up front, the run game will be all but nonexistent, just as it has been. The offense will become predictable, and in turn, they’ll find it tough to move the ball at all. The defense will do enough to keep the Redskins in the game, but they’ll never have the edge over the Cowboys. At the end, they’ll score a few more points out of necessity, but they won’t sniff the win in this one. I’m predicting a Cowboys win, by a score of 27-19.
