Question No. 1

Riggo’s Rag: After six games, the Cowboys are in the middle of the pack, with a record of 3-3. What can you say about their season so far?

The Landry Hat: I think the Dallas Cowboys could easily be 5-1, but injuries and inconsistent play have hurt them. This is essentially the same team that won 13 games last season with a better pass rush and a younger defensive secondary. So the 3-3 record is a bit misleading. But as former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells used to say, “You are what your record says you are”.

I think Ezekiel Elliott has had a slow start to the season, but is running better now. Dak Prescott is having a great second season and shows no signs of a sophomore slump. And Dallas’ defense finally has a legitimate pass rush.

Question No. 2

Riggo’s Rag: The duo of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott shocked the world last year, and they’ll go down in history as one of the best rookie tandems ever to grace the game. How is their progression coming along in year two?
The Landry Hat: As previously mentioned, Prescott continues to impress. He’s actually thrown for three touchdown passes in each of his last three games. He’s also ran in two more scores. To start the season, Prescott seemed to linger in the pocket a bit too long. In recent games, he’s started to run more which has helped to open up the offense some.

As for Elliott, his legal issues and lack of preseason play seemed to slow his start. But he’s coming off a three touchdown performance himself against the San Francisco 49ers. Zeke appears to be back, and he’s finally running like he did for most of last season.
