The Washington Redskins are taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the preseason finale tonight. Follow along with all the action here!

Just like that, the 2017 NFL preseason is getting ready to conclude. Just a few weeks ago, the preseason kicked off when the Redskins took on the Baltimore Ravens. Now, for the second straight season, they are going to close out the year taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.

The Bucs have had a decent preseason thanks to their strong group of quarterbacks, led by Jameis Winston. However, tonight, the Buccaneers figure to rest their top options and role with a duo of Ryan Griffin and Sefo Liufau at quarterback. Griffin has shown promise in the past, while Liufau is an undrafted rookie out of Colorado. It Liufau gets an extended look, the Redskins will have a chance to win.

At the same time, the Redskins are going to be testing a host of roster hopefuls during this contest. Nate Sudfeld will play a majority of the game at the quarterback position, and it will be a major test for him. He got the start in last year’s preseason finale and did fairly well, but he needs to show strides in order to hold onto a roster spot.

Elsewhere, young players like Mack Brown and Maurice Harris are looking to battle their way onto the 53-man roster. Both could be the victims of number crunches at their positions, and they need to impress in order to keep their jobs. For that reason, this is going to be a lot more exciting than many anticipate.

We will be following all the action in Tampa Bay right here as it goes down. We’ll have instant analysis, highlights, and updates about all things Redskins in the contest. Feel free to follow along and comment down below!

6:00: The Redskins Twitter posted some highlights of Mack Brown’s performance against the Buccaneers from last year. They’re pretty cool and worth checking out!

6:25: Former Redskins DeSean Jackson and Chris Baker are not going to be playing in this contest. This was an expected development, and was reported by CSN’s Rich Tandler.

6:27: Tandler is reporting that 33 Redskins will not play in tonight’s game. One is Josh Doctson, who some expected may see a series or two just to get some momentum. Two others are Will Compton and Chase Roullier. The latter is surprising, given that Roullier is a rookie who has limited experience playing in the NFL. Perhaps this is an indication that the Redskins view him as an important cog on the offensive line, especially with Spencer Long hurt.

6:41: Time for our Redskins pregame poll! Head on over to our Twitter page to check out this week’s poll. Give us a follow while you’re there too!

6:44: Junior Galette is not going to be playing tonight either. Once again, this is not a major surprise, but it will be interesting to see what type of role he plays for the Redskins in the season opener.

6:53: The Redskins website just confirmed all 33 of the inactives for the game here. Some of the notables on the list who may have been expected to play are Ryan Anderson, Terrell McClain, and Ryan Grant. Also, Samaje Perine will be active tonight, so there is a chance he could take some carries away from Mack Brown.

6:58: With the game’s start drawing nearer, make sure that you know how to watch it. We have you covered with that, and have a lot of preview material in there too!

7:06: Last season when the Redskins played Tampa Bay, it was raining hard for most of the contest. Tonight? There’s a 0 percent chance of precipitation until 11 p.m. That should benefit Nate Sudfeld as he tries to prove himself.

7:14:  Jameis Winston is emerging as a leader in Tampa Bay.

7:20: Ten minutes until game time for the Redskins! And this will be the final game prior to the regular season.

7:23: There are a few former Redskins on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kirk Cousins greeted one of his most recent No. 1 wide-outs, DeSean Jackson.

7:35: The Redskins have won the toss and they elect to receive. Sudfeld and the offense will be on the field first in Tampa Bay.

7:39: After a run by Samaje Perine, Sudfeld was called for a delay of game after letting the play clock run out. Not a great start by the second year man.

More from Commanders News

7:44: After another first down on a great catch and run by Jeremy Sprinkle, Sudfeld is sacked on third down. The Redskins punt is downed inside the 5 yard line!

7:48: The Redskins were able to draw a couple of penalties after an early 11-yard run by Peyton Barber. It’s now second and 19 for the Bucs.

7:50: And the Redskins are able to force an overthrow from Ryan Fitzpatrick to end the first drive. The Redskins receive a punt and get it to their own 46. Great field position for their second offensive series!

7:54: On first down, Samaje Perine was unable to gain any yardage. The following play, Sudfeld held the ball for too long before throwing it away. Then, Matt Hazel made a catch and used some elusiveness to get another Redskins first down!

8:00: A Vinston Painter penalty costs the team a first down, but Dustin Hopkins converts a 53-yard field goal! Thanks to strong efforts from Hazel and Mack Brown converting on a third and one, the Redskins now lead 3-0.

8:06: Stefan McClure made a great tackle just short of the mark on third down to stop the Bucs receiver. Unfortunately, the Bucs converted on fourth and short to continue the drive.

8:10: Nico Marley and Deshazor Everett have looked good throughout the early stages of the first quarter. Marley could end up playing himself onto the roster, while Everett looks like a lock to make it at this point.

8:12: The Redskins are back on offense after Everett breaks up a pass on third and 15. Sudfeld and the Skins will have a chance to extend their 3-0 lead.

8:16: Nate Sudfeld is 10-for-12 with 80 yards thus far. He just had a great completion to Brian Quick for the first down. The Redskins keep driving!

8:17: Brian Quick comes up hurt after a play, grabbing at his leg. We will keep you posted on his status for the rest of the game.

8:22: The Redskins have worked the ball into field goal range thanks to a really good catch by Hazel and a nice run by Mack Brown. The team is contemplating going for it and took a time out to discuss it.

8:28: The Redskins force a three and out once again and they will be on offense once again. The team is playing very well on defense once again.

8:35: This drive, the Redskins have featured Matt Jones on a few carries and then used the play action to get the ball downfield to Matt Hazel. The Redskins offense is really clicking, and they clearly have some tough choices to make about the 53-man roster.

8:38: Mack Brown is doing everything he can to make the final roster. He’s had a few nice runs on this drive, and has showed nice burst in the hole. He should be the favorite to make the roster if the Redskins keep four backs.

8:43: Arie Kouandjio is called for holding after Matt Jones runs in for a touchdown. 1The 10-yard penalty wipes out the score.

8:48: Dustin Hopkins misses a field goal attempt wide right. It’s his first miss of the season. The Redskins still lead 3-0 as the half approaches.

8:51: And it’s halftime. The Redskins lead 3-0 but they will be kicking off to start the second half. At halftime, take a chance to vote in our halftime poll!

9:03: Our halftime takeways are here! This time around, things are generally more positive for the Redskins given how well they’ve performed.

9:09: Joey Mbu sacked Sefo Liufau, but the Redskins defensive lineman grabbed his facemask. That keeps the Bucs first drive of the second half alive.

9:12: Zach Hocker, a former Redskin and now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, missed a 56-yard field goal to cap off the Bucs drive. The Redskins now get the ball close to midfield and they maintain a 3-0 lead!

9:18: Mack Brown coughs up the ball on second down on the Redskins possession. The Bucs recover. This fumble is not good news for Brown as he continues to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster.

9:21: Josh Harvey-Clemons and Pete Robertson have been able to get some pressure on the Buccaneers quarterbacks tonight. The Redskins may not be able to keep either of them on the active roster, but both are candidates to make the practice squad.

9:33: The Redskins defense holds up once again and Maurice Harris catches the punt return. The Redskins are still leading 3-0 in a big time defensive battle.

9:40: The Redskins are starting to move the ball once again after a nice catch and run by Robert Davis and a great downfield catch by Harris. After three quarters, the Redskins are holding onto a three point lead!

9:48: Dustin Hopkins hits a 50 yard field goal to give the Redskins a 6-0 lead! If the defense can hold up, the Redskins could end the preseason with an impressive win.

9:54: The Redskins just allowed a long touchdown catch, but it will be overturned. The Bucs receiver was touchdown down in the red zone, so the score will be overturned.

10:00: Stefan McClure drops a potential interception, but the Redskins are able to get a key sack thanks to Nico Marley, and then stop the Buccaneers on a third and 28. Fish Smithson nearly had a pick, and the Bucs settle for a field goal.

10:08: The Redskins punted the ball back to the Buccaneers. With under six minutes left, the Redskins are still leading 6-3. They will need just one more big defensive stand to hold on for the win.

10:15: It looks like Jeremiah McKinnon was able to get his arm under a potential interception for the Redskins. However, the play was called incomplete and after a review, the ruling on the field stands. Tough luck for McKinnon.

10:21: And the Redskins surrender a touchdown after the review. With three minutes left, the Redskins still lead 13-10.

10:32: With under a minute left, the Bucs have the ball deep in their own territory. The Redskins have a three point lead and a defensive stand will notch a win for them.

10:37: THE REDKSINS WIN!!! By a final score of 13-10, they knock off the Bucs and close the preseason with a win.
