Still, signing Mangold seems unlikely

Though Mangold seems like he would be a good fit with the Redskins, there would be some obstacles to overcome.

The first is that the two sides would have to agree on some sort of deal. Mangold is used to being paid like one of the best centers in the league, and rightfully so, but he may not be willing to take a smaller salary. He could have his standards.

At the same time, the Redskins may not be able to afford his asking price without creating extra cap space. The best way to do that would be by releasing DeAngelo Hall or Lauvao, which could be risky moves.

Also, the Redskins did invest a sixth round pick in Roullier, so they may be interested in seeing him in action. They could see if he is ready to go and then decide to make a move if they feel like he needs more time to develop.

Finally, Long’s injury is just for two weeks. If he were to be out longer, the pressure might be on the Redskins a bit more. But for now, he is only set to miss a couple of weeks that include the preseason dress rehearsal and a game he was unlikely to play in. Realistically, that is not a big deal at all.

At the end of the day, this is just a possibility for the Redskins. Adding Mangold could upgrade their line, so they should definitely consider doing it. If everything were to fall into place perfectly, it would be the right move. There are likely too many hangups for this to get done.
