Round 1, Pick 17

Will Pick: LB Jarrad Davis, Florida

In this simulation, Haason Reddick had already come off the board, but the Redskins still wanted to grab a linebacker. They are reportedly high on Jarrad Davis, and they may have a shot at landing him with the No. 17 overall pick.

  • Davis has excellent intangibles and is one of the smartest linebackers in this draft class. He has excellent technique, and should be one of the best pure tackling linebackers in the NFL. He will help to really improve the Redskins linebacker corps, provided that he could stay healthy.

Should Pick: CB Adoree’ Jackson, USC

I was torn between Adoree’ Jackson and Dalvin Cook for this designation, but I decided to go with the former for a couple of reasons. The running back class in 2017 is already very strong, so the team could land a solid back in the middle rounds of the draft. Secondly, Jackson is a game-changing athlete with positional versatility.

If the Redskins are looking for a guy that could really help their defense to improve overnight, Jackson could be that guy. He could man the slot position and if Bashaud Breeland improved in 2017, they would have one of the best cornerback groups in the NFL with these two and Josh Norman.

Dark Horse: S Obi Melifonwu, UConn

Another athlete to watch is Obi Melifonwu. The Redskins have a couple of projected starting safeties, but Melifonwu could be a super sub that may be able to play slot corner. Don’t be surprised if Melifonwu ends up being one of the Redskins rumored targets on draft night.
