September: 3 Games

The Redskins are going to be starting the 2017 season off with a home tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles. It will be the first NFC East clash of the season and, much like last year, the early contest with a rival could prove to be critical for the Redskins postseason chances. In Week 2 of 2016, the Redskins barely lost to the Dallas Cowboys to fall to 0-2. That made their climb to the playoffs difficult.

While the Eagles game is a real toss-up, the Week 2 game may be more intriguing. The Redskins travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. It will be the second game in the Coliseum of the year, and will reunite many familiar faces. Namely, it will be Sean McVay’s first game against his former team. McVay had previously served as the Redskins offensive coordinator before being hired as the next head coach of the Rams.

McVay will have his work cut out for him. The Rams have a rough looking offense, with Todd Gurley qualifying as the only real threat for them. This is a contest that the Redskins should be able to win, but expect McVay to bring his best game plan. He wants to prove that he can beat Gruden, his former mentor.

The final game in September will be the team’s first primetime game. Returning home to D.C., the Redskins will take on the Raiders on Sunday Night Football. This could end up being another offensive shootout, as both teams are stronger on the offensive side than the defensive side. Oakland is one of the better teams on the Redskins early schedule, and it will be tough to beat them. Still, the Redskins will have a shot because it is a home game.
