Pierre Garcon

Many have hoped that the Redskins would re-sign Pierre Garcon. The veteran wide-out was the most consistent receiver on the roster last year, and he had one of his best seasons ever. He topped the 1,000 yard mark and really looks like he has another three years left in the tank.

That said, Garcon’s asking price has increased from his current contract, and he could be in line to land a deal that pays $10 million annually. In all likelihood, a three year, $30 million deal would make the most sense for Garcon. Though the Redskins have a lot of cap space, they will not want to pony up that kind of money for a couple of reasons.

The first is the aforementioned young receivers, Crowder and Doctson, who are waiting in the wings. The team does not want to pay Garcon a large amount just to come in and function as the third receiver. He would do a solid job, but it would end up being an overpay for the team. The second reason is that he team has to plan ahead to re-sign some of their top young talent in the near future. Included in that group would be offensive linemen Morgan Moses and Brandon Scherff.

According to reports from Walter Cherepinksy of WalterFootball.com, Garcon has told the media that he has not heard from the Redskins during the offseason. If that is true, then that is likely a sign that the team will be moving on from Garcon. He will definitely have plenty of suitors, and should be able to find a place where he can thrive as a high end No. 2 receiver. Unless the Redskins have a trick up their sleeve, Garcon seems unlikely to wear the burgundy and gold in 2017.
