There are a couple of scenarios in which Griffin would come into play for the Broncos, and one of them certainly falls into the “desperate” category. The first, non-desperate situation involves Peyton Manning retiring and Denver being left with Brock Osweiler as the only starting-caliber quarterback on the roster. Griffin could come in as a quality No. 2, with the potential to spell Osweiler if he struggles.

The second, “desperate” option involves the Broncos losing both Manning and Osweiler this offseason. Manning retires, Osweiler leaves via free agency and Denver is left with sophomore Trevor Siemian as the only quarterback on the roster. Griffin would be a major upgrade, and could slide in as the starter for the reigning Super Bowl champs.

Making a trade for Griffin seems like a solid fallback plan, but it obviously comes with its fair share of risk. However, putting RG3 in the starting role would be lightyears better than handing the job to Siemian.
