DeMarco Murray left, and the Cowboys’ running game fell to pieces. The entire group struggled throughout the 2015 season, with Joseph Randle disappointing in the starting role before eventually ceding the job to Darren McFadden and losing his roster spot. While McFadden ended up with a 1,000-yard season and dominated down the stretch, he’s far from a reliable option considering his history.

So what should the Cowboys do this offseason to alleviate the running game’s issues? Convince the Philadelphia Eagles to give Murray back? Or maybe sign a proven veteran like Forte to run behind one of the NFL’s most dominant offensive lines? If I were calling the shots in Dallas, my gut would tell me to take the latter option.

Like I’ve mentioned a number of times, Forte excels as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Based on what we saw this past season when Dez Bryant was hurt, the Cowboys need all of the weapons they can get in the passing game. He’s also a very instinctive runner with the vision and patience to make the most of the enormous holes the Cowboys’ front five tends to create. It would be an excellent landing spot for Forte as he looks to end his NFL career on a high note.
