Although there’s been some skepticism surrounding his commitment to the decision, Marshawn Lynch announced during the Super Bowl that he would be hanging up his cleats this offseason. If that does end up being the case, the move would leave the Seahawks with an unproven group of running backs to rely on.

Thomas Rawls was a pleasant surprise last season, showing impressive confidence in the starting role. Unfortunately, an injury ended his season early and forced the Seahawks to look elsewhere for production. Fred Jackson and Bryce Brown were both subpar options (and are both pending free agents), and Christine Michael was brought back but failed to impress. With Lynch likely out the picture, it’s not looking good for Seattle’s ground game in 2016.

Bringing in Forte would certainly be an exciting addition to a Seahawks team that already looked dangerous on both sides of the ball in 2015. Not only would he give Seattle a tough, productive player at running back who can pick up where Lynch left off, but he’s also a sensational weapon out of the backfield who Russell Wilson would love to have at his disposal. Lynch’s retirement would open more than enough cap space to get Forte under contract.
