Depending on how the next month goes, the Redskins could soon have a significant need at wide receiver. Both veteran starters, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson, are considered potential cap casualties, and may be let go to save some money. If either of those cuts happens, the Redskins will be forced to add replacements to Kirk Cousins’ arsenal.

The draft will help add some young, developmental talent, but the Redskins will also need an experienced starter to join in on the fun. That’s why a player like Matthews makes perfect sense for Washington. Not only is he coming off of a semi-breakout 2015 campaign, but he’s proven that he can produce when given the opportunity to start in the NFL. Just ask the Miami Dolphins, who watched him evolve from a little-known backup to an above-average starter in no time at all.

With plenty of starting-caliber talent at wide receiver, the Dolphins likely won’t push too hard to re-sign Matthews. That will open a door for the Redskins to swoop in and sign the capable starter, who possesses great size, reliable hands and the ability to consistently produce. Plus, he only made $673,403 this past season, and could be signed for a reasonable price in 2016.
