Believe it or not, Drew Brees won’t be around forever. He’s still an outstanding quarterback who can lead the Saints to consistent wins, but there’s not much tread left on his tires. Eventually, he’s going to need to hang it up and the team needs a solid replacement to fill the void when that time comes.

Griffin certainly isn’t the most ideal candidate to be Brees’ heir apparent, but the potential is there for him to be a quality option after the future Hall of Famer calls it a career. The Saints don’t appear to have been too impressed with Garrett Grayson after one season, and would likely prefer to have a more experienced No. 2 behind Brees. At this point, Griffin would be a better option than Grayson and wouldn’t cost them too much against the cap.

If the Saints signed Griffin, he’d be stepping into a very strong locker room that could easily corral him and keep his head above water. He may have been a nuisance during parts of his time with Washington, but he’d be in a nurturing environment that could help him get back to the RG3 we saw during his rookie campaign.
