There may not have been an SEC quarterback who improved more in 2016 than Allen, who went from an undraftable talent to a late-round sleeper with serious upside. Although he doesn’t do any one thing particularly well, he’s a solid athlete, exceptional leader and possesses the arm to make most of the passes an NFL quarterback should.

During the 2015 season, he compiled 3,440 yards, 30 touchdowns and eight interceptions through the air while completing 65.9 percent of his passes. He only added one touchdown on the ground, but isn’t expected to be much of a factor with his feet. Allen led the Razorbacks to a surprising 8-5 finish, including a strong, season-ending win against the Kansas State Wildcats in the Autozone Liberty Bowl.

Given time and proper coaching, Allen should develop into a quality backup quarterback, whether it’s in D.C. or elsewhere. Like I mentioned previously, he’s not outstanding at any one thing, but he brings a strong, well-rounded package to the table and should earn at least a few starts before his NFL career comes to a close. The Redskins definitely would be wise to give Allen his opportunity at the next level.
