Coaching Ratings

Offense:

Gruden came into this game with his hands supposedly tied. Missing multiple starters, especially Trent Williams and Matt Jones limited him to a game plan where he couldn’t let Cousins throw the ball 35+ times nor sit back in the pocket for a long time.

Injuries are just an excuse frankly. The Steelers are missing 5 of their 10 best players, were down to a undrafted backup at LT and Landry Jones at QB and still were able to beat the Cardinals by double digits.

Gruden’s game plan was to try and get Morris going and use quick passes on the flanks to Thompson and Crowder to try and move the ball against the tough Jets’ defense. In this, he only succeeded when the Jets turned the ball over.

The Redskins gave up on the run when the Jets avalanched them in the 3rd quarter and the passing game just couldn’t provide them any real offense especially when Kirk Cousins had his melt down on the field.

This offense was just poorly prepared and made horrible adjustments(assuming that they made adjustments at halftime).

Grade: F

Defense:

Barry ran his cover-3 defense again, only adjusting to put Trenton Robinson closer up and Goldson slightly deeper along with flipping Murphy and Kerrigan back to their natural sides of the defense and using Golston in Paea’s place on the defensive line.

Goldson still freelanced and still came up a lot. This didn’t cost the Redskins because the Jets lacked a deep threat to take advantage of a no high safety look.

How did this work out? Well, when Breeland wasn’t getting them turnovers, they struggled badly.
