2015 NFL Scouting Combine:   2/17/15 – 2/23/15 – NFL Network

Defensive backs – Work out on 2/23/15

7.  Derron Smith, FS – Fresno State  (5-11, 197) Projected Round – 3rd. Derron Smith has excellent range in coverage and has made 15 career interceptions and is an excellent return man when he makes a pick or on punts as well.  He’s also a good tackler and isn’t afraid to come up and deliver a blow on ball carriers.  However, he doesn’t have great size in comparison to the other top safety prospects

What to Watch for?  His 3-come drill and 40-yard dash.  Smith needs to show that he has the speed to make plays in coverage and that he has the agility to overcome his lack of height in coverage.  If he times well in these areas, Derron Smith could put himself in position to move up into the second round.
