Scot McCloughan’s To Do List: Part 1 – Offensive Line
By Chris West
Nov 23, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris (46) celibates with tackle Tom Compton (68) after a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers during the second quarter at Levi
Tom Compton, RT
Tom Compton looked adequate when he first filled in for an injured an ineffective Tyler Polumbus earlier in the season. I did a breakdown of Compton‘s first few starts a few weeks ago. Compton has since showed many of the same problems that plagued Polumbus.
Compton gave up a sack in most of the games he played in during the 2014 season. He allowed two versus Dallas but zero against Philadelphia. Of the two sacks allowed to the Cowboys, one was playing LT and the other RT.
Compton has trouble with speed rushers more than power rushers. He too often allows a short path to the QB to pass rushers. Compton, although the best option the Redskins have at the moment, would be best served being a swing tackle where he backs up the starter at both LT and RT.
Compton had the best grade of all the linemen versus the Eagles with a 0.84 rating. He was the worst lineman not named Chris Chester against the Cowboys, earning a 0.61 rating. He had a very poor 0.46 rating over the 2 games when lined up at LT while his 0.77 rating at RT for the 2 games was average.
-next, Tyler Polumbus-
