1) Hire a true football man to lead the organization.
During the time that both George Allen and Joe Gibbs coached the Redskins, there was never a question of who the leader is. Both had differing styles of leadership but both also provided a direction for the team. Now, there is no direction and the team is floundering.
Bruce Allen has been around football all of his life but has failed to steer the Redskins into a winning organization during his five years in Washington. In his defense, Mike Shanahan was in effect his boss for his first four years with the team. However, the team is much worse off now than when he came here and he has failed to show a plan toward success.

To have success, any organization needs to believe in and trust in its leader and the path he has laid out for them. Allen, like Shanahan, has failed to do this. Therefore, a search must begin immediately.
Bruce Allen could remain with the team as a chief administrator but all football decisions need to be made by the Redskins future head of football operations/GM. Whether he is a previously successful football man (ala George Allen) or a young unknown eager to run his own team (as Joe Gibbs was when he came to the Redskins) doesn’t matter. His ability to lead does.
