The Redskins already have the archer. And the jungle man. And now, mingling well with his new defense, Redskins’ third-round rookie Fabian Moreau wants to be the ‘dog’.

Fabian Moreau may not start the season fully healthy. But regardless of his physical condition, Moreau is, mentally, more than ready to compete. The UCLA product, who was rated as a first-round pick in many draft communities, has been learning everything he can from his new teammates. When his time comes, he doesn’t just hope to make an impact. Per Redskins.com’s Alyssa Haduck, he expects to.

"“I’m a physical press corner,” Moreau said. “I like to get in the receiver’s face. I like to challenge them. And I like to make plays, and just be that dog out there helping my team win.”"

Moreau brings the right mentality to a secondary that already appears to have undergone a slight culture change in the 2017 offseason. With the acquisition of D.J. Swearinger, the team reunited two high school buddies in Josh Norman and Swearinger. The two have reportedly helped take young players under their wings in a joint effort.

Improvement is almost guaranteed from last year’s debacle in the defensive backfield. The team swung and missed badly on free agents David Bruton and Donte Whitner, and Bashaud Breeland saw a startling regression from his career year in 2015. Now six months pursuant to the 2016 season, the defense looks stronger, younger, and more united as it preps for the impending campaign.

Moreau is just one piece of a young and talented secondary core that consists of several players yet to reach 30 years of age. Those players are not limited to Josh Norman, D.J. Swearinger, Su’a Cravens, Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller, Joshua Holsey, Quinton Dunbar, and Montae Nicholson.

Fabian Moreau is ready to assume his role in Greg Manusky’s aggressive defense. He’s ready to be the dog. Time will tell if he can become the top dog.
