Trent Murphy’s sudden suspension in April came as both a surprise and a disappointment, given his development in 2016. It appears we finally have more information on the subject.

Trent Murphy was suspended in April of this year. The suspension stemmed from a violation of the league’s PED policy, but until now, we had little knowledge on the matter. Murphy spoke out about his suspension for the first time on Wednesday. Here’s what he had to say about the ordeal, per Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

"The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Murphy explained that his suspension stemmed from the use of what he believes was a tainted supplement. Murphy said he couldn’t even pronounce the name of the banned substance that was found in his system, but he got rid of all of his supplements and has since switched to a brand that is more closely monitored.“It’s disappointing. It doesn’t reflect who I am as a player, but at the end of the day, just do what I can for the team and put myself in position to play football,” Murphy said. “The people that are closest to you and your character, who know where you come from, they’ll always be by your side. My team has rallied around me, been really supportive, so I’m just going to do the best I can to recover from this.”"

Despite his readiness to recover from the suspension, he’ll have to wait until Week 5 of the 2017 season to do so. He likely will continue to have a sizable workload once he returns to the lineup. However, his role is still up in the air. The Redskins’ edge rushing core is very boom-or-bust in 2017. If Ryan Anderson impresses enough, the Redskins could alter their rotation.

Nevertheless, Murphy will work hard to stay in the loop until his next opportunity comes. And we’ll keep you in the loop with any offseason developments as the Redskins work their way toward the regular season.
