Kain Medrano - Commanders LB
The Washington Commanders didn't use linebacker Kain Medrano all that much during the 2025 campaign. He was always regarded as a development project when he came into the franchise, and that proved true. However, the desired growth must arrive this offseason with improved options around him.
Washington signed Leo Chenal in free agency. They used the No. 7 pick on Sonny Styles, who comes into the league with franchise cornerstone potential. With Frankie Luvu moving back to his preferred off-ball role and Jordan Magee still having promise, this could be a prolific quartet if everyone meets expectations.
Where that leaves Medrano is anyone's guess. Getting on the field as a linebacker might be difficult, so he might focus on special teams. Still, his exceptional athleticism could see him become a linebacker/safety tweener with the correct development over the summer.
This would allow him to be instinctive and put his dynamism to good use. Whether the Commanders go down that route is another matter entirely.
Antonio Williams - Commanders WR
There is an enormous amount of intrigue in the Commanders' wide receiver room. Most fans and experts still think another productive veteran will come on board at some stage, but front-office leader Adam Peters may want to take a closer look at what he has before deciding on further action.
Aside from Terry McLaurin, the Commanders are relying on one of the younger players to break out. Some will improve, but by how much is the big question. And for third-round pick Antonio Williams, a significant opportunity awaits.
Williams was projected as a first-round selection before his final college campaign at Clemson. Things didn't go according to plan, but the Commanders believe they may have a steal on their hands with the No. 71 overall pick. If he can impose himself in the coming months, there should be an important role for the wideout right out of the gate.
Tyler Owens - Commanders S
The Commanders still have some concerns about the safety position. Adam Peters brought one new face into the fold but kept faith with those who underperformed during the previous campaign. It was a contentious decision, but one he believes can reap rewards after bolstering the defensive front seven.
It'll be interesting to see who separates themselves from the pack. Free-agent signing Nick Cross will start, but all bets are off aside from that. Quan Martin and Will Harris could potentially have the upper hand, but Daronte Jones looks like the sort of coach who could help Tyler Owens finally put everything together.
Owens is entering Year 3 in Washington after making the roster as an undrafted free agent. His athletic attributes are off the charts, but something has prevented the Commanders from getting him heavily involved so far. If Jones can work his magic, that might just change in 2026.
