Dan Quinn and his Washington Commanders squad are coming into a high-stakes situation with the national spotlight glaring on primetime. Traveling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11 continues this historic rivalry between both franchises. There is also more on the line than ever.
With the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants fading fast, Washington and Philadelphia are in a straight fight for NFC East supremacy. There is very little between the two clubs right now. This game comes with significant ramifications attached one way or another.
The Eagles will get some breathing space with a win at Lincoln Financial Field. If the Commanders somehow pulled off an upset on the road, they would once again be on the summit with a tie-breaker attached.
This is what Washington fans have been waiting for. They're involved at the business end of the campaign. Every game and every result matters. Nobody expected it to happen this quickly. Capitalizing on this monumental positivity is crucial.
With that being said, here are five bold predictions for the Commanders on Thursday Night Football.
Bold predictions for the Commanders in Week 11
Jayden Daniels gains 300 total yards
Jayden Daniels is the man for the big occasion. His outstanding poise and immense composure under center have spearheaded the Washington Commanders' renaissance. Nothing seems to faze the signal-caller despite his lack of NFL experience. Thursday's game represents a different challenge entirely.
Lincoln Financial Field is notoriously intimidating. The Philadelphia Eagles fanbase is passionate, loud, sometimes obnoxious, and does everything possible to help their team win. This is a test Daniels must be ready for in pursuit of getting the Commanders back to winning ways.
It won't be easy, but confidence is high in Daniels.
He's been almost flawless up to now. Daniels' performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers was arguably the worst of his rookie campaign so far. However, the former LSU star wasn't helped by drops in the passing game after failing to get anything going on the ground.
Philadelphia's defense under coordinator Vic Fangio will throw everything at Daniels. Weathering an early storm, taking the crowd out of the equation, and coming up with big plays in key moments are crucial.
If Daniels can accomplish this feat en route to 300 or more total yards, the Commanders will be well-positioned to triumph if the defense lives up to their end of the bargain.
Ben Sinnott gains 50+ receiving yards
Dan Quinn recently revealed that the Washington Commanders' offensive playbook hasn't been implemented fully as yet. What better time to open things up than against the Philadelphia Eagles in a crucial road contest?
One player who could be the primary beneficiary of this hasn't been allocated any prominent targets as yet. The Commanders have taken their time with rookie tight end Ben Sinnott, bringing him along gradually and using him more from a blocking standpoint than anything else.
This was expected given the presence of Zach Ertz and John Bates. But if offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury has confidence in the former Kansas State standout, he might be a surprise the Eagles don't see coming in Week 11.
Sinnott will be more involved at some stage. The Commanders selected him at No. 53 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft with a view to him becoming a complete package over time. Ertz's regression as a punishing season begins to take its toll could mean more involvement in the passing attack on a short week.
The first-year pro has three receptions from as many targets for 18 receiving yards and one touchdown so far. Getting Sinnott over 50 receiving yards is an ambitious yet attainable goal.
Commanders hold Saquon Barkley under 100 yards from scrimmage
Saquon Barkley is a superstar. He's made the New York Giants pay for not giving him a new deal, joining the division rival Eagles and displaying the exceptional all-around production that's spearheaded their surge to a 7-2 record through nine games.
The Commanders must be wary of Philadelphia's prolific wide receiver duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. However, defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.'s primary mission will be to restrict Barkley's influence. That could be easier said than done unless everyone executes their assignments with supreme conviction.
Barkley's been one of the league's best dual-threat running backs from the moment he came into the NFL. He's already amassed 1,149 yards from scrimmage with eight touchdowns this season. That's a remarkable accomplishment from someone the Giants deemed unworthy of a long-term commitment.
The former Penn State star has failed to reach 100 yards from scrimmage twice this season. They were both in blowouts against the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns where his touches were limited. That won't be the case this time around.
If the Commanders can hold Barkley to under 100 all-purpose yards, that's a huge step in the right direction. Whether it'll be enough to win considering the problems within the secondary is another matter.
Brian Robinson Jr. scores 2 touchdowns
The Washington Commanders are without cornerback Marshon Lattimore and kicker Austin Seibert in Week 11. However, they received one significant boost on the health front heading into their Thursday Night Football showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brian Robinson Jr. is back.
After missing the last two games, the team's No. 1 running back is off the injury report and ready to go. Just how much of a workload the former third-round selection accumulated remains to be seen.
Austin Ekeler performed extremely well in his absence. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury could allocate a more balanced share versus a stout Eagles defensive front giving up just 100.7 yards per game on the ground.
If the Commanders want to stand any chance of securing success, they need to make their red-zone opportunities count. Robinson will have an influential say in this area of the field with his physical running style. Leaning on him heavily could be the key to unlocking a Philadelphia defense displaying encouraging growth after a rocky start.
The Alabama product already has six touchdowns on the season. If Robinson can add two more to his collection in Week 11, the better Washington's chances will be.
Commanders pull off a memorable road win
This season has been littered with impressive statements by the Commanders. Securing a road win over the Eagles would arguably be the biggest one yet at an important stage of the campaign.
Fans are expectant as Washington gears up to walk into enemy territory. They've proven capable of hanging with anybody this season. Aside from their Week 1 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dan Quinn's men have been competitive throughout. It won't be easy on a short week, but the same is needed in no uncertain terms at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Commanders go into the game as underdogs. That's just fine with them. It's all about laying down a marker and reminding the entire NFL audience that this is a project going places quicker than even the brightest optimist expected.
Handling the pressure and intimidating environment is crucial. If the Commanders can accomplish this, control the clock, and gain some early momentum from which to build, don't be surprised if they emerge from this heated divisional battle with bragging rights.
