Antonio Gibson – Commanders RB

It was a difficult but necessary decision to part ways with J.D. McKissic ahead of time. While the running back made a major commitment to the Washington Commanders by turning down the Buffalo Bills, a devastating neck injury left the organization with no alternative other than to cut ties with the pass-catching weapon.

This means finding another option is a necessity at some stage. Eric Bieniemy will have his thoughts and the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator’s presence at the running back drills during the NFL Scouting Combine was notable.

Either way, this represents good news for Antonio Gibson. He might end up playing second-fiddle to Brian Robinson Jr. in terms of carries, but McKissic’s departure coupled with Bieniemy’s exceptional offensive mind came at the best possible time for the player.

Of course, the wildcard is if Washington identifies someone like Bijan Robinson in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Texas product comes into the NFL with generational potential and if he’s still around at No. 16 overall, Bieniemy could bang the table hard if other needs are met beforehand.

As it stands right now, Gibson should be heavily involved. Even if this could all change once the all-important draft selection process concludes.
