Previewing the Eagles offensive line

Philadelphia seems to be on much more solid footing. They have a clearly defined starting five, and three of them – tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, and veteran center Jason Kelce – are elite players. Both guards – Landon Dickerson and Isaac Seumalo – have shown the ability to play at a high level as well.

Pro Football Focus writer Michael Renner likes the Eagles line so much that he rated it the best in the league entering the season. One of the most crucial factors in this rating is that players like Jack Driscoll and Andre Dillard (more on him in a moment), who have logged time as starters in recent years, are now around to provide quality depth. They are very excited about rookie Cam Jurgens, Kelce’s heir apparent and Sua Opeta, the guard who put up 39 bench press reps at the 2019 draft combine.

Two years ago, when Dillard went down with a season-ending injury, the Eagles began to fall apart. He was supposed to take over for future Hall of Famer Jason Peters at left tackle. Now, Dillard has suffered another potentially long-term injury. But though it obviously hurts their depth, it doesn’t matter nearly as much because of Jordan Mailata’s emergence.

So even though Kelce is getting old and Lane Johnson’s ankles are never a sure thing, Philadelphia is in much stronger position than they were two years ago.
