Round 2, Pick No. 47: Georgia S Lewis Cine

The Commanders don’t have a glaring need at safety, but it wouldn’t hurt building for the future with one of their first two picks. While Kam Curl belongs in the team’s long-term plans at the position, the same can’t be said for Bobby McCain, who re-signed on a two-year deal and is entering his age-29 season.

Assuming Notre Dame stud Kyle Hamilton isn’t available in Round 1, Georgia’s Lewis Cine makes a ton of sense for Washington at pick No. 47. In a nutshell, Cine was one of the best safeties in the nation for arguably the best defense in the nation that just so happened to win the National Championship.

In 2021, Cine’s 82.4 player grade from Pro Football Focus ranked eighth in the Power 5 and he missed just 11 tackles on 159 career attempts for the Dawgs. His stock only improved at the Combine, when he ran a 4.37 40-yard dash and logged an 11-foot-1 broad jump at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds.

Cine was largely deployed as a deep safety at Georgia, but his 9.78u relative athletic score (RAS), which ranked 19th (!) out of 788 free safeties that have tested since 1987, suggests he can be much more versatile in the NFL.
