3 laughable offseason moves from Commanders’ NFC East rivals

2. Eagles not signing a star WR
For the first time in a while, there’s reason to be optimistic about all four NFC East teams. The Eagles are no exception after they finished 9-8 and made the playoffs in their first season under Nick Sirianni’s tutelage.
Slated with three draft picks inside the top 19, including back-to-back selections at No. 15 and 16 overall, the Eagles are in a prime position to add a trio of immediate contributors to their roster. With that said, though, we’re left scratching our heads as to why they didn’t splurge on a wide receiver in free agency.
Yes, one (or even two) of their draft pick(s) will likely be invested in a receiver, but this year’s class was absolutely loaded. Perhaps GM Howie Roseman thought better after his near-trade for Calvin Ridley fell by the wayside after the Falcons receiver was suspended a full year for gambling on games, but that’s a lame excuse.
Between Allen Robinson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Christian Kirk, DJ Chark, Russell Gage, Cedrick Wilson and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, the Eagles blew several opportunities to lessen the burden on 2021 draft gem DeVonta Smith.
Instead, the Eagles re-signed Greg Ward and added former Colts’ undrafted free agent Zach Pascal, whose best season came in 2020 when he totaled 44 catches for 629 yards and five touchdowns.
Pascal is a fine fourth option on a deep unit, but he adds to what was already a hodgepodge of uninspiring options behind Smith, which includes Ward, Quez Watkins, JJ Arcega-Whiteside and 2020 first-round bust Jalen Reagor.
Reagor’s struggles with the Eagles are well-documented. Looking to build off a dud rookie campaign, the former TCU star was just as unproductive in Year 2, totaling 33 catches for 299 yards and two touchdowns. If you can believe it, his 55.5 receiver grade from PFF was better than Pascal’s 52.7 mark.
If we had a microphone in hand, we’d drop it.
