2. Will Landon Collins be back?

Outside of the quarterback position, what’s the biggest question prevailing over Washington this offseason? Some would say the linebacker and safety positions, and rightly so, but Landon Collins’ future is right up there.

We honestly weren’t expecting Collins to be part of Mayhew’s Combine presser, but leave it to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post to ask the hard-hitting questions. Jhabvala didn’t pull any punches either. The distinguished reporter got right to the point, asking whether Collins would be back at his current salary.

On top of delivering a political “Time will tell,” response, Mayhew noted he’ll meet with Collins’ representatives this week in Indy. Anytime a general manager is noncommittal about a player’s future, speculation ensues and we can’t help but wonder if Collins’ time with Washington has run its course.

At the very least, it sounds like the Commanders will negotiate a potential restructure of Collins’ contract. For someone who no longer plays the position he was signed to play and has yet to play a full season for Washington, the team cannot justify entering 2022 without tinkering with his $16.082 million cap hit.

Whether it’s a restructure or a potential release, it sounds like Mayhew will have a difficult conversation with Collins’ reps this week.
