The Washington Football Team heads into a must-win matchup against the division-rival New York Giants on Thursday night.

If you’re wondering how a Week 2 game can be considered a must-win, Washington will travel to Buffalo next weekend. After that, they’ll play the Falcons, followed by a brutal three-game stretch vs the Saints, Chiefs and Packers.

Given how the Eagles and Cowboys looked in the opening week, the Football Team can’t afford to lose any ground in the NFC East.

Anyway, enough negativity. You know what could make a projected low-scoring affair more interesting? Throwing some action on the game.

You know where we’re going with this, Washington ones, With NFL betting more prevalent than ever, let’s delve into some intriguing prop bets fans should make before Thursday night’s showdown.

Washington Football Team: 3 best prop bets for Thursday night

3.  First quarter spread: Washington -0.5 (+120)

That’s right, folks. You can bet the Football Team to have just a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter at +120 odds (bet $100 to win $100).

For starters, Washington is playing at home. The FedEx Field faithful should be electric given the hated (and pedestrian) Giants are coming to town. Ron Rivera will have his squad ready to play, the players will be itching to rebound from Week 1 and starting QB Taylor Heinicke just brings a different kind of energy.

Maybe we’re being naive, but Washington almost beat the Chargers — who are clearly a better team than the Giants — on Sunday despite losing their quarterback, countless costly penalties, a killer fumble, conservative coaching, and allowing Los Angeles to convert 14-of-19 (73.6%) of their third down attempts.

We’re not saying Washington will put forth a flawless performance vs the Giants, but surely they won’t have countless things go against them for a second straight week. Even if the Football Team doesn’t get off to a blazing start on Thursday, we fully expect them to at least hold a one-point advantage after the first quarter.

2. Terry McLaurin OVER 5.5 receptions (–108)

Let’s start by saying that we aren’t expecting Terry McLaurin to have a field day against the Giants’ secondary, which flaunts high-end talents like James Bradberry, Adoree Jackson and Logan Ryan.

However, while McLaurin might struggle in the receiving yards department, he should definitely manage six or more receptions (bet $108 to win $100). Those are pretty great odds, especially when you consider that McLaurin finished with four catches in Week 1…despite not logging a target in the first quarter.

When Taylor Heinicke relieved the injured Ryan Fitzpatrick, he made it a point of emphasis to feed McLaurin, who finished the game with four receptions (including a catch-of-the-year candidate) for 62 yards on four targets.

Say Heinicke drops back to pass 25-30 times against the Giants. You have to think McLaurin — as long as the pass rush holds up — will generate at least 10 targets. For a player with a career 64.5% catch rate, he should come down with at least six catches on Thursday, even if they don’t go for significant gains.

Dare we say that McLaurin cashes this bet fairly easily, so don’t miss out on the action before the 8:20 p.m. EST kickoff.

Washington RB Antonio Gibson (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

1. Antonio Gibson OVER 69.5 rushing yards (-112)

We know Antonio Gibson committed a back-breaking fumble on Sunday, but he was undoubtedly Washington’s best player in the game, taking 20 carries for 90 yards (4.5 YPC), while adding three catches for 18 yards as a receiver.

Expect Gibson to parlay that efficient showing with an equally-impressive performance against the Giants, who are fresh off allowing the Broncos to rush for 165 yards in Week 1. That included a 70-yard touchdown scamper from Melvin Gordon in the fourth quarter to really put an exclamation point on the win.

For context, those 165 rushing yards were the fourth-most any team surrendered in Week 1. Yes, 70 came on one carry, but Denver was going to be run-heavy on that possession anyway. Either way, the Broncos still gashed the Giants on the ground.

You have to think Ron Rivera and OC Scott Turner took note of that and will look to get Gibson going early on to set the tone on Thursday.

And for any Washington fans who are reluctant after the performance the offensive line turned in on Sunday, they were largely solid opening holes for Gibson. Most of their struggles came in pass protection, specifically against Joey Bosa.

We all know Gibson is a more talented runner than Gordon at this stage of his career. As long as the gameplan is up to par, expected the second-year RB to eclipse the 70-yard threshold against the G-Men.

If you want to make some money betting Washington, bet Gibson to rush for more than 69.5 yards on Thursday night.
